A source told the Arabi21 newspaper that the Egyptian army has
established a training camp to host Libyan rebels affiliated with the
leader of the attempted coup, General Khalifa Haftar, and the leader of
the National Forces Alliance, former Prime Minister Mahmoud Jibril, who
is currently living in the United Arab Emirates.
In an exclusive report,
the newspaper quoted an unnamed source as saying that the training camp
is located near the Libyan and Egyptian border and hosts more than
5,000 young Libyan fighters who are supporters of General Haftar and
opposition leader Mahmoud Jibril.
According to the source, the youth are being trained to move
under General Haftar's leadership "to destabilise Libya and use chaos to
justify turning against legitimacy and hindering the democratic
process".
Clashes erupted in the city of Benghazi on Friday between armed rebels
affiliated with General Haftar and militants and Islamists affiliated
with the Libyan army in a struggle over control of the city, leaving
many dead and wounded, according to the Libyan Ministry of Health. On
Sunday, Haftar's militia attempted to seize the national parliament in
Tripoli.
