Israelis storm Al-Aqsa Mosque and injure dozens of Palestinians

16 March 2014
Source: Middle East Monitor

Dozens of Palestinian worshippers were wounded on Sunday morning when Israeli police fired stun grenades and rubber bullets towards them in Al-Aqsa Mosque. The media coordinator for Al-Aqsa Foundation for Religious Endowments and Islamic Heritage, Mahmoud Abu Atta, said that countless Israeli forces stormed the mosque from the Mughrabi Gate and assaulted the Muslims at prayer inside.

"The Israeli police fired volleys of stun grenades and rubber bullets," said Abu Atta. "Among all the injuries, at least one young man was seriously wounded in the head during the assault." He pointed out that the Israeli police prevented students from reaching their religious lessons inside the mosque. The students then staged an impromptu protest outside the Hettan and Al-Majlis Gates.

"Some Muslims spent the night in the mosque while others arrived during the dawn prayers and stayed to protect the site following calls from the Temple organisations to celebrate the Jewish Purim festival there" added Abu Atta.

Jewish settlers have called for an escalation of incursions into Al-Aqsa Mosque, urging people to storm the site so that they can celebrate the Jewish Passover there in the middle of April. The Al-Aqsa Foundation reported that Israeli forces had a high security presence outside the gates of the sanctuary and in the alleys of the Old City of Jerusalem.

The Foundation warned of the fierce Israeli campaign against Al-Aqsa and other Islamic and Christian sanctities in Jerusalem. It called upon Islamic, Arab and Palestinian organisations to take urgent action to protect and save the mosque, Jerusalem and Islamic and Christian holy sites from the ravages of the Israeli occupation.

Israel is exerting efforts to end crisis with Jordan after killing Palestinian judge

11 March 2014
Middle East Monitor

Israel is intensifying its diplomatic efforts to sort out the crisis with Jordan after occupation forces killed on Monday morning a Palestinian judge who holds Jordanian citizenship, Israel Radio reported on Tuesday.
The report did not mention the source of its information or describe what kinds of diplomatic efforts are being exerted to end the crisis.

Israeli occupation forces shot to death judge Raed Za'eiter, aged 38, while he was entering Allenby Bridge between Jordan and the occupied West Bank. Israeli army commander Yaron Beit On told reporters that Za'eiter had attempted to snatch the rifle of an Israeli soldier.

The Jordanian government demanded immediate investigations into the judge's death. The Israeli foreign ministry replied that an investigation into the incident has already started and Amman would be informed about the findings as soon as the probe was completed.

Jordan's Foreign Minister Nasser Joudeh summoned on Monday Israel's acting ambassador in Amman to express his country's deep concern about the killing.

Another Jordanian official noted that the incident has put Jordanian-Israeli relations at stake. The official, who preferred anonymity, said that: "Diplomatic channels witnessed hot contacts on Monday, including serious protests from Jordan and a demand to punish the perpetrators."

The official added that what is increasing Jordan's anger is the timing of the crime, which coincides with declining Jordanian-Israeli relations due to Israel's escalating violations against the holy sites in Jerusalem and the Knesset's proposed draft resolution to revoke Jordan's custodianship over them.

Jordanian security forces forcefully dispersed a demonstration against the judge's killing in front of the Israeli embassy in Amman. Protesters called for an end to Jordanian-Israeli relations and demanded the dismissal of the Israeli ambassador in Amman and recalling his counterpart in Tel-Aviv.

Jordan and Israel have maintained official relations since 1994, when the peace accord known as Wadi Araba was signed.

So that Al-Aqsa does not end up like Al-Ibrahimi

On November 29, 1947, the UN General Assembly issued Resolution 181 which stipulated the division of Palestine and the establishment of two states, an "Arab" and a "Jewish" state and placed Jerusalem under international protection, meaning that it must be kept as is and none of its population or geographic features can be changed. According to the division map, Jerusalem extended from Bethlehem in the south, to Kofr Akab, near Ramallah in the north, and from Abu Dis in the east to Ein Karem in the west.

However, Israel's leaders forcefully imposed, contrary to the stipulations of the UN resolution, the borders of its state on 78 per cent of Mandatory Palestine, including what became the so-called "West Jerusalem". When he was criticised for going beyond the borders set by the division map, Ben-Gurion said, "Israel's borders end where its last soldier stands".

After the occupation of the rest of Palestine in 1967, the Knesset issued a decision to annex what had been known as "East Jerusalem", although the seizure decision did not include enforcing all Israeli laws upon it, as it continued to be called "Jerusalem Military District" until 1981, when the Knesset signed the Camp David Peace Accords with Egypt, but did not consider the Palestinian Jerusalemites as citizens, but "residents" instead.

This was done in order to implement the plan to Judaise Jerusalem and make it the eternal capital of the State of Israel. It was also an attempt to expel as many of its inhabitants as possible, especially its national political and community leaders, such Abdel Hamid Al-Sayeh, Rawhi Al-Khatib, Bahjat Abu Gharbieh, Dr Subhi Ghosheh, writer Mahmoud Shukair, Ahmed Khalifa, Archbishop Hilarion Capucci and many others.
We must not forget the Israeli decision to move the Jordanian Court of Cassation headquarters from Jerusalem to Ramallah and put the Israeli District Court in its place which led to the strike of an overwhelming majority of lawyers and judges in the West Bank, including Jerusalemite lawyers and judges, who refused to plead before any West Bank or Jerusalem court, or work there until the strike was ended after the Oslo Accords and the emergence of the Palestinian Authority, in accordance with the agreement, in 1994.

Regardless of the case, the sensitivity towards the religious and cultural significance of Al-Aqsa Mosque remained present, posing a mine which all successive Israeli governments avoided pushing too far for fear of igniting a fire that would explode and extend past the borders of Palestine and would be difficult to control and contain. This explains the agreement of the many Israeli governments to Jordan remaining the custodian of Al-Aqsa Mosque and its surrounding holy sites.

This was emphasised in the "Wadi Araba Peace Treaty" signed between Jordan and Israel in 1994. Despite the fact that the Israeli leaders had the upper hand and many strong points, despite their distinguished and unmatched political arrogance and ideological firmness and despite their imposition of settlements and Judaisation, they realise that going too far in attacking Al-Aqsa Mosque was the direct reason for the outbreak of many of the Palestinian uprisings, both those that took place before the establishment of their state in the 1920s, most notably the "Al-Buraq Revolution" in 1929 and those that took place after the occupation of the West Bank and Gaza in 1967, most notably the "Tunnel Intifada" In 1996 due to the excavation under the Mosque and the "Al-Aqsa Intifada" in 2000 because of Sharon's provocative visit to the mosque courtyards.

However, the events occurring today in Jerusalem and its surrounding areas, including Israel's attempts to pass legislations, unleash the extremist Jewish settlers and their representatives in the government and Knesset to violate the Holy Mosque and the political refusal to negotiate the issue of Jerusalem, all reflect hidden intentions and a new-old desire to seize the Holy mosque. They are encouraged by the Arab powers' preoccupation with their internal affairs and concerns, which has increased the internal Palestinian divide and allowed Israeli misguidance to lead popular Arab uprisings by means of inciting groups that are selling Jerusalem and stabbing it in the heart. Such groups disguise themselves under the name of Jerusalem and commit all sorts of strife and sectarian and denomination wars in Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Yemen, Egypt, Libya and Tunisia.

They have reversed the standards of resistance and Jihad, as Palestine and its heart, Jerusalem, no longer have a place in their thoughts and agendas, despite the fact that many hide under names associates with Jerusalem and the Holy Land etc.

It is true that the attempts to pass legislation to divide the Haram Al-Sharif, both in terms of space and time, and ending the Jordanian custodianship over the area have not been translated into law yet, but it is also true that merely daring to do so is a prelude to gradually entering this idea into the minds of the Palestinians, Arabs, and the international community. Making the repeated ground and political violations of the Haram Al-Sharif a normal issue makes it possible to repeat what happened in the case of Al-Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron.

The habit of Israeli leaders to gradually allow the world to get used to their plans has become a feature and main characteristic of their daily policies. It is worth recalling how Golda Meir breathed a sigh of relief, despite her political concern, after the Arab reaction towards the burning of Al-Aqsa Mosque in 1969 was much calmer than she had expected. Meir drew the policy of continued violation of Jerusalem, Al-Aqsa and all the holy sites while being reassured by the weakness of the Arab's response.

We have discovered that there is a market for Jewish citizens located under Al-Aqsa which has taken away custom from the city's old markets.

The subjection of Al-Aqsa Mosque to unprecedented political and ground violations are all part of the escalating and ongoing Judaisation process of Jerusalem. Apart from generalisations, there is now a process of methodical purging of the city by easing Palestinian construction in areas of Jerusalem outside the Separation Wall in order to attract a new generation of Jerusalemites. This has made the city of Kafr Akab, a district of Jerusalem adjacent to Ramallah and which is located outside the Separation Wall, a densely populated residential city, full of Jerusalemites who are sick of the complications and difficulties of obtaining a building permit to build a house in the city.

The danger of this issue lies in the fact that merely declaring that the borders of Jerusalem are dictated by the Wall will deprive all Jerusalemites of their right of life or access to the city with just a stroke of a pen. Hence, the result is ridding the city of tens of thousands of Jerusalemites, as well as the decision of the Israeli Ministry of the Interior to dictate the validity of a Jerusalem ID, setting it at ten years, which would be the first time it has done so since 1967. There is also the decision of the Ministry of Education to apply the Israeli educational curriculum to all schools in Jerusalem after it had allowed schools to teach the Jordanian and then the Palestinian curriculum, after the establishment of the Palestinian Authority.

Israel police, protesters clash at Jerusalem's Al-Aqsa mosque

Jerusalem (AFP) - Israeli police clashed with stone-throwing Palestinians Tuesday in the Al-Aqsa mosque compound of Jerusalem's Old City, ahead of a parliamentary debate on Jewish access to the site, holy to both faiths.

Israel captured the Old City from Jordan during the 1967 Six Day War. But the compound, the holiest place in Judaism and the third holiest in Islam, has been administered by Jordan since the two countries signed a peace treaty in 1994.

Tuesday evening, the Knesset (parliament) held the first part of a debate called by right wingers demanding that Israel end its practise of forbidding Jewish prayer at the compound.
In Jordan, meanwhile, opposition Islamists urged the government to freeze the treaty with the Jewish state, fiercely objecting to any change in the status of Jerusalem's Muslim sites.
Israeli security forces entered the Al-Aqsa compound just after 7:30 am (0530 GMT), and fired stun grenades and rubber bullets to disperse Palestinian protesters, police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld told AFP.
He said there was "high tension" ahead of the parliamentary debate.
Stones thrown by the Palestinians injured two policemen, and three protesters were arrested, he said.

Palestinian medics said 15 protesters were wounded by rubber bullets.

Azzam al-Khatib, director of the Islamic Waqf (religious endowments) body that oversees the site, said he had called for a closure of access to the compound to avoid clashes.

"Since yesterday we've been demanding the closure of the Maghabira gate, because of the provocations and statements against Muslims by various right-wing parties," he told AFP.

The compound is a flashpoint because of its significance to both Muslims and Jews.

Sitting above the Western Wall plaza, it houses the Dome of the Rock and the Al-Aqsa mosque.
It was previously the site of the first and second Jewish temples and is known to Jews as Temple Mount.

In a motion for the Knesset agenda, which was not put to a vote, MP Moshe Feiglin, a hardline member of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's Likud party, said Israel's fear of igniting Muslim rage amounted to discrimination against Jews.

"Behind the people's backs we have given up on every shred of sovereignty over the Temple Mount," he said.

"Any terror organisation can raise its flag there (but) there can be no trace of the Israeli flag. Reading from the psalms is forbidden and police even advise (Jews) to remove skullcaps from their heads."

"Only Jews are forbidden to pray at this place," he told the almost-empty parliament.

- 'Match in a powder keg'-

Zehava Gal-On, from the leftwing opposition Meretz party, accused Feiglin and his supporters of seeking to torpedo US-sponsored Israeli-Palestinian peace talks.

"Those who today are calling for (Jews) to go up to the Temple Mount at this sensitive point are throwing a match into a powder keg," she said.

"You and your friends are trying to endanger Israel... to shackle the peace process and not leave the question of sovereignty over the Temple Mount to be decided in negotiations."

After capturing east Jerusalem, which includes the Old City, Israel later annexed it in a move never recognised by the international community. But under the 1994 peace treaty, Jordan retained authority over all Muslim sites in the city.

Jordan's opposition latched onto the Israeli debate as justification for severing ties with the Jewish state.
"We urge the government to meet the demands of people who have repeatedly called for freezing and eventually cancelling the peace treaty," the Islamic Action Front said on its website.

Jordanian officials were not immediately available for comment.
Earlier this month a panel of Jordanian MPs warned that "Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa represent a red line."

Western media warns against division of Al-Aqsa

Friday, 17 January 2014
Source: Middle East Monitor

Western media outlets have warned against proposals and plans prepared by Israeli politicians in the Knesset to divide Al-Aqsa Mosque. The escalation of incursions by settlers and Jewish groups into the mosque, where Jewish extremists have performed religious rituals, is also condemned as it could spark wide Muslim, Arab and Palestinian reactions.

A statement from Al-Aqsa Foundation for Religious Endowment and Heritage pointed out a number of reports and articles published in international newspapers, including the Washington Post, the Guardian and the Times.

The foundation noted that a recent report on Israel's Channel 10 gave details of the preparations, dynamics and detailed plans for building a temple "on the rubble of Al-Aqsa". It is believed widely that Jewish extremists plan to destroy Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Dome of the Rock in order to build a temple on the ruins. That is why such extremists desecrate the Noble Sanctuary with increasing frequency, said the foundation. A backlash from the world's Muslims, for whom Al-Aqsa is the third holiest site, cannot be ruled out, the report warns.

Support for dividing the mosque physically and in terms of access times between Muslims and Jews is also being considered as a serious option, even among mainstream Jewish groups and the Israeli government, said Associated Press. "Jewish visits to the politically-sensitive compound are on the rise, and key Israeli lawmakers are lobbying to end a ban on Jewish prayer there," added the AP report quoted by Al-Aqsa Foundation. Around 8,000 Israelis took part in incursions of the mosque in 2013, said AP, compared with 5,700 in 2009.

Politicians Miri Regev, who heads Israel's Interior Affairs Committee, and Moshe Feiglin, Deputy Speaker at the Knesset, were named by the Guardian, which highlighted the two lawmakers' plans for Jewish prayers to be held in the sacred mosque of Al-Aqsa. The Guardian also pointed to the statements made by Israeli Housing Minister Uri Ariel, who advocates the building of the temple.

Al-Aqsa Foundation argued that the increasingly frequent appearance of such media reports in the international media indicates that Al-Aqsa is in real danger. It insisted that the role of the Muslim Ummah, the Arab world and the Palestinian people will continue to be central to the defence of Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Noble Sanctuary.

Israeli settlers storm Al-Aqsa Mosque and climb Dome of the Rock

17 January 2014
Source: Middle East Monitor

Israeli settlers have stormed repeatedly Al-Aqsa Mosque compound over the last two days, and on Thursday even climbed the Dome of the Rock Mosque. The settlers were led by the radical Rabbi Yehuda Glick, who is the former head of the Temple Institute. He was accompanied by a journalist on Thursday who carried a camera to document the attack, while settlers reportedly engaged in verbal altercations with angry Muslim worshipers defending the mosque. Witnesses reported that Rabbi Glick returned to storm the Al-Aqsa Mosque twice on Friday, joined by groups of Jewish settlers whom he lectured to about the alleged Temple.

The settlers have now become accustomed to storming the mosque regularly, usually touring around the yards starting from the Mughrabi Gate and then going to Al-Marwani Mosque, Rahma Gate, Al-Asbat Gate and King Faisal Gate until the Alqtanin Gate, exiting from Al-Selselah Gate. However, this is the first incident where the settlers have climbed the Dome of the Rock Mosque.

The General Director of Muslim Endowments and Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs, Sheikh Azzam Al-Khatib, has condemned the incident and described it as a provocative and dangerous step. Meanwhile, the Islamic-Christian Committee to support Jerusalem and its holy sites issued a press statement affirming that the incident represents "a flagrant violation against places of worship" and pointing out that the Israeli occupation authorities have almost completed their efforts to Judaise Al-Aqsa Mosque and its surroundings and are preparing to announce it as a Jewish synagogue.

In related news, Israeli occupation forces arrested three young Palestinian men from inside Al-Aqsa Mosque on Thursday and took them to a police station in the occupied city of Jerusalem.

Support mounts for Jewish prayer at key holy site

JERUSALEM (AP) — For decades, the religious Jews who bucked a rabbinic ban and visited a Muslim holy site in Jerusalem where the ancient Jewish temple once stood were seen by many as a fanatic fringe.

But their cause is gaining support among both mainstream religious Jews and Israel's government. Jewish visits to the politically-sensitive compound are on the rise, and key Israeli lawmakers are lobbying to end a ban on Jewish prayer there.

The matter reached the highest of official levels this month when Israel asked Jordan, which administers Muslim religious affairs at the site, to consider allowing limited Jewish worship there, according to a Jordanian official.

The visits have unnerved Muslim authorities, who fear that Israel is quietly trying to upset a fragile status quo and encroach upon the site. Similar tensions in the past have boiled over into deadly violence.
"If this happens, there will be lot of bloodshed," said Azzam Khatib, director general of the Waqf, Jordan's Islamic authority that manages the Jerusalem holy site, about the possibility of organized Jewish prayers there.

The site, known to Muslims as the Noble Sanctuary and to Jews as the Temple Mount, is ground zero in the territorial and religious conflict between Israel and its Arab neighbors.
Revered as Islam's third holiest spot, the site's iconic gold-topped Dome of the Rock enshrines the rock where Muslims believe the Prophet Mohammad ascended to heaven.

Jews believe the rock may be where the holiest part of the two ancient temples stood about 2,000 years ago -- and where religious Jews pray a third temple will one day be built.

The site is so holy that Jews have traditionally refrained from praying on the hilltop, congregating instead at the adjacent Western Wall. In recent weeks, Israel's chief rabbis, as well as the rabbi of the Western Wall, have issued directives urging people not to ascend the Temple Mount, arguing that the temple's former location on the mount is unclear and that Jews at the site could inadvertently enter the holiest area of the once-standing temple, where it was forbidden to tread.

Attitudes among Orthodox Jews have been evolving, however, as archaeologists have weighed in about the precise location of the ancient temples -- and of places where Jews would be allowed to tread.

According to figures the Israeli newspaper Makor Rishon said it obtained from the police, Jewish visits to the holy site have jumped from about 5,700 in 2009 to some 8,300 in 2011. Last year, the number dropped slightly to about 7,800 and this year rose to nearly 8,000.

The Temple Institute, an organization that has led efforts to allow Jewish prayer at the site, attributes the drop in 2012 and this year to police closures during religious holidays when many Jews usually visit. There was no immediate comment from the police to confirm the statistics.

In one of the strangest security measures in the Holy Land, visitors identified as Jews receive police escorts and are banned from praying.

Rabbi Chaim Richman of the Temple Institute, a group that has for years been advocating for Jewish prayer at the holy site, said police often harass and remove Jews who ascend the mount and recite prayers. He called for Jewish religious freedom at the site.

"I'm asking for the right to move my lips," Richman said.

Israeli officials declined comment on the matter, but an aide to Israel's deputy minister of religious affairs said the religious affairs ministry has drafted a proposal that would allow for limited Jewish prayer at the site.
"We see great importance to allow equality in freedom of religion" at the site, said the Idit Druyan, the aide to Deputy Minister Eli Ben-Dahan. "There is no reason why one religion is allowed and another religion is not."
Muslims at the site have protested in recent weeks over what they call Jewish encroachment, and Muslim clerics warn against allowing separate hours for Jewish and Muslim prayer at the site, an arrangement that exists at a Hebron holy site and that Druyan said the religious affairs ministry has considered.

A Jordanian official said Israel asked Jordan this year to consider allowing limited amount of Jews to pray in a small area at the site, according to a Jordanian official. The Israeli request was rebuffed, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was discussing a classified diplomatic matter.

The Jordanian official said Jordanian King Abdullah II has asked Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu several times, most recently two weeks ago, to prevent Jewish worship at the compound, warning that such a move would provoke Muslims and rekindle anti-Israel sentiment around the Muslim world.

Israeli officials declined to comment on those talks, citing the extreme sensitivity of the matter.

Israel captured the site, located in the walled Old City, and the rest of east Jerusalem from Jordan in the 1967 Mideast war. An Israeli flag was enthusiastically raised on the peak of the Dome of the Rock and a military commander announced what later became an iconic catchphrase: "The Temple Mount is in our hands."

But the flag was quickly taken down, and Israel conceded administrative control of the compound to the Waqf, the Islamic religious body in Jerusalem, to keep the peace. The Western Wall, a remnant of the retaining wall of the ancient second Jewish temple just below the compound, was cemented as Israel's central Jewish pilgrimage site.

When hawkish former Prime Minister Ariel Sharon ascended the mount in 2000 in a demonstration of Israeli sovereignty over the site, it helped trigger the second Intifada, or Palestinian uprising. More than 3,000 Palestinians and 1,000 Israelis were killed in several years of fighting.

The Palestinians claim east Jerusalem, and the Old City, as the capital of their future state. The status of the site remains perhaps the most sensitive and explosive issue in U.S.-brokered peace talks.

Despite the tensions, the Jewish visits continue. Early one morning last week, during limited hours open for tourist visits, eight Orthodox Jews ascended the compound in groups of one and two.

One Israeli, an immigrant from St. Louis, Missouri, walked barefoot despite the morning winter chill, as Jewish pilgrims did millennia ago.

An Israeli police officer and a Waqf representative shadowed the Jewish visitors to ensure they did not break the ban on Jewish prayer. When their minders were distracted, the visitors murmured psalms.

The Jewish visitors said they often resort to tricks to circumvent the police-enforced ban on prayer. Some pretend to talk on the phone but recite prayers instead. Others secretly prostate themselves in prayer while bending down to observe shrubbery, pick up dropped keys or take a photo low to the ground.

Pinchas Rosenfelder, a 44-year-old Toronto native who moved to Israel, said his monthly visits to the site were to uphold Israeli sovereignty of the site.

"If you're not in a place, you lose it," Rosenfelder said. "The lack of a Jewish presence here is not a good thing."

Rabbi David Rosen, an Israeli interfaith activist, said Jews should be allowed to pray at the site in the framework of an Israeli-Palestinian peace deal, but allowing Jewish prayer before peace was reached could torpedo current negotiations.

"The fact something is a right doesn't mean you have to exercise it," Rosen said about Jewish prayer at the site. "It doesn't take much to light this tinderbox."

Jewish settlers enter Al-Aqsa Mosque under protection of security forces

26 July 2012
Source: Middle East Monitor

More than 120 Jewish settlers entered Al-Aqsa Mosque on Wednesday morning. Al-Aqsa Foundation for Islamic Endowments and Heritage said that several groups of illegal settlers entered the Noble Sanctuary from Al-Magharebeh Gate and spread around the compound in several places. There, it is reported, they established religious study circles and performed a number of prayers.

Witnesses who took video and still photographs of this latest incursion at Al-Aqsa Mosque said that the settlers were protected by heavily armed Israeli security officers. The settlers nearly came to blows with Muslims attending the midday prayers at the mosque.

Al-Aqsa Foundation warned of "the increasing Israeli aggression against Al-Aqsa Mosque, including incursions and profanities by Jewish groups and Israeli soldiers in the run-up to this weekend's alleged anniversary of the destruction of the Jewish temple.

Stressing the importance of popular resistance to such incursions by extremist Jewish groups, Al-Aqsa Foundation called on Palestinians "to attend as early as possible and stay in Al-Aqsa Mosque in order to protect it".

Israeli skullduggery: planting fake Jewish graves at Aqsa

Published May 22nd, 2012 - 17:23 GMT via SyndiGate.info
Source: albawaba

srael is implanting “thousands of fake” Jewish graves in the land surrounding al-Aqsa Mosque “at the pretext of carrying out repair and maintenance works and new excavations” in a bid to lay hand on Palestinian and Islamic endowment lands, Al-Aqsa Foundation for Endowment and Heritage said in a report on Monday.
“The Israeli occupation of Jerusalem is committing a very ugly crime on Palestinian lands, on Muslim endowment lands, and that is the implanting of thousands of fake Jewish graves in this site,” Abdel Majeed Mohammad, of the Aqsa Foundation was quoted in report as saying.

“What we learned from the people of Silwan is that there is limited number of Jewish graves (around Aqsa Mosque). The Israeli occupation is trying to impose a fait accomplice to control Palestinian endowment lands through implanting 3,000 graves.”

“This is the greatest paradox; on the one hand Israel bulldozes Muslim graves in Jerusalem, on the other hands it implants thousands of fake Jewish graves,” Mohammad said.

He added that thousands of Jewish tombstones were planted around the mosque to indicate graves, but underneath, there are no bodies, nor skeletons.

In January 2012, the Palestinian Information Center (PIC) reported that Israel “implanted 50 unreal graves in the northern part of Silwan district so as to control and seize about 20 dunums of Palestinian land there.”

“This Israeli move is aimed at separating the area from the walls of the Aqsa Mosque, where the IOA [Israeli Occupation Authority] also intends to establish a chain of Talmudic gardens and a large Jewish museum in the area connected with the Jewish cemetery in Ras al-Amud and Attour neighborhoods and the settlements, Maale Hazeetim and Maale David,” PIC reported.

In 2010 Israel said it had destroyed about 300 Muslim gravestones in a Jerusalem cemetery because they were “fake” and set up in a bid to snatch government land, according to AFP.

But the Islamic Movement completely denied the graves were fake, saying all of them contained bodies.

The demolition of the graves took place near the site of a planned Museum of Tolerance to be built by the Simon Wiesenthal Center, a U.S.-based Jewish human rights group.

What is your opinion on Israel's cloak and dagger graveyard activity? Has Israel taken its territorial conflict with the Palestinians into the preserve of the dead? Could this be a form of imperialism from the grave?

flag inside the Aqsa mosque

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)– A group of Israeli occupation soldiers hoisted a three-meter long Israeli flag inside the holy Aqsa mosque on Monday and took photos with it as background.

Azzam Al-Khatib, the director of endowment in Jerusalem, said that around 160 soldiers of the special forces provocatively hoisted the flag inside the mosque.

He said that one of the Aqsa guards told them to lower the flag and get out of the Aqsa plazas, but they refused and shouted at him.

He pointed out that the incident is the first of its kind since the Israeli occupation of Jerusalem in 1967.

Youths abort settlers’ attempt to storm Aqsa Mosque

3rd August, 2011
Source:Friends of Al Aqsa

Jerusalemite youths managed on Monday night to abort an attempt by a group of 20 Jewish settlers to storm the holy Aqsa Mosque during Tarawih prayers.

One of the mosque's guards said that the settlers from Kiryat Arba, in Al-Khalil, managed to enter the Aqsa plaza through the Asbat gate while chanting racist slogans including "Death to the Arabs".

He said that the youths repelled the settlers and blocked their entry into the mosque where worshipers were performing the late night prayers in Ramadan known as the Tarawih.

The guard said that Israeli police arrived to the scene, arrested five young Jerusalemites, and took the settlers away.

Israel attack worshipers at Aqsa Mosque

14-03-2011

Al Qassam website - Violent clashes broke out Sunday morning at the Aqsa Mosque between Palestinian worshipers and Israeli troops who desecrated the Mosque along with Jewish settlers.

Palestinian eyewitnesses said the suspicious and blasphemous moves made by the settlers in the Mosque’s courtyards prompted the Palestinian worshipers to glorify the name of God, but all of a sudden the Israeli troops attacked them violently injuring one of them and detaining three others.

They added that the Israeli occupation forces intensified their presence at the Aqsa Mosque following the clashes.

In a related context, an Israeli court banned a Palestinian young man from Umm Al-Fahm city in the 1948 occupied lands called Mohamed Jabareen from entering the Aqsa Mosque for one month on a charge of glorifying the name of God inside the Mosque

IOF install spy cameras in the Aqsa Mosque

[ 19/06/2005 - 02:24 AM ]

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)-- In a new flagrant violation of the Aqsa Mosque’s sanctity after their sacrilegious act against the holy Quran in the Megiddo and Nafha prisons, the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) installed hi-tech spy cameras and monitoring apparatuses.

The new cameras would detect every movement within and around the boundary of Al-Haram Al-Sharif and would monitor every inch in it whether above surface or underground, the Aqsa foundation, catering for Muslim holy shrines in Palestine, said in a statement issued Sunday and a copy of which was received by the Palestinian Information Center (PIC).

"They have been preparing for such a thing weeks ago and we doubt their allegations by which they tried to justify the step; however, we believe that those steps were part of an Israeli comprehensive plan to tighten the grip on the Aqsa Mosque and the occupied city of Jerusalem, and of course, to monitor and frighten Muslims performing their religious rites inside the Mosque", it added.

"The Israeli step constitutes direct and immediate threats to the present and the future of the Aqsa and converts it into a military barracks rather than a place for worship, especially after the IOF doubled their troops and backed them with elite units and made some geographical alteration in the city", it affirmed.

The foundation urged Jerusalemites and the rest of Palestinian people within and outside the occupied homeland to consolidate their cohesion with the Aqsa and to defend it at any cost.

The foundation further advocated Muslim presence in the Haram round-the-clock, as it urged the Muslim and Arab Ummah and scholars to seriously perform their part in the battle for the defense of the Aqsa.

Islamic-Christian commission warns of Israeli intent to raze Aqsa Mosque

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)-- The Islamic-Christian commission for the support of Jerusalem and holy sites warned that the demolition of the southern parts of the Aqsa Mosque and its wide courtyard became a strategic goal for the Israeli occupation at this stage.

Secretary-general of the commission Dr. Hasan Khater said in an urgent press release on Monday that the Israeli occupation authority (IOA) is getting prepared in action and not in word for the moment of the expected collapse resulting from its excavations underground.

Dr. Khater noted that most of the Israeli circles have become convinced that the collapse of the Aqsa Mosque is a matter of time.

"We, in the Islamic-Christian commission for the support of Jerusalem, confirms that the Muslim nation in the world has the right to make sure about the safety of their Aqsa Mosque, which is one of their holiest sites and part of their faith; therefore, we demand the organization of the Islamic conference and the Arab League to form a high-level delegation of engineers and experts to visit the Aqsa Mosque and assess the condition of its buildings," the Palestinian official underscored.

“WAITING FOR ARMAGEDDON” a Film Review by Fern Sidman

A Film By: Franco Sacchi, Kate Davis and David Heilbroner

Reviewed by: Fern Sidman

In an hour and a quarter, filmmakers Franco Sacchi, Kate Davis and David Heilbroner take us through a tumultuous journey to the final scenario of the world as we know it, as they present the religious prophecies of the 50 million strong American Evangelical Christian movement in a new and powerful documentary entitled, “Waiting For Armageddon.” Riding the wave of the all pervasive eschatological (or End Times) phenomenon that has, in recent years, been highly touted in the media and in literary circles; the filmmakers provide an in depth view of what some interpret to be the Biblically mandated perspective on the final days of our universe. Told in the first person voices of mainstream Christians who subscribe to the beliefs of the evangelical church, they inform us that the end of days will occur in the Land of Israel, with the Jewish people figuring prominently in this venue.

“The Jewish people are G-d’s chosen people” says one American Christian, “and as such they are a light unto the nations. Whoever blesses the Jews will be blessed and whoever curses them will be cursed”, he continues. Providing historical proof of the downfall of the nations that have attempted to eradicate the Jewish nation such as the Babylonians, the Assyrian-Greeks, the Romans, as well as the Nazis, the Christian spokesperson lauds the Jewish people as G-d’s treasured, cherished nation, not to be fooled with. The predicate for their belief emanates from the Book of Revelations and is outlined in four stages – The Rapture, The Tribulation, The Apocalypse and The Millennium.

The film incorporates multiple interviews with everyday, lay people such as James and Laura Bagg, a Connecticut couple who are employed as jet propulsion engineers, Tony and Devonna Edwards of McAlester, Oklahoma and Dr. H. Wayne House of Salem, Oregon who explain in chilling detail the catastrophic and violent events that will unfold in the end of days. We also hear from an Orthodox Jewish scholar who casts aspersions on the ominous prognostications of the evangelicals as well as professors of religious studies and an evangelical tour guide that leads a group to Israel so that they may visit the Temple Mount and other sites such as Meggido.

Clearly, the foundation of their belief rests upon their interpretation of the second coming of Jesus, and they promulgate that notion as a potential, “World War III” in which they will be “raptured” or lifted into the skies to join their perceived messiah while the remainder of humanity suffers for seven years during “The Tribulation”. During this time, they assert with great assuredness that an anti-Christ will emerge and the nations of the world will coalesce to attack Israel and the Jewish people. While they proclaim the immense and pivotal role of Israel will play; it is because of their belief that the battle of Armageddon will take place there and they further claim that the battle will leave the earth ravaged and that their purported messiah will create a new and perfect world. The Jews they say, will eventually abrogate their belief in a monotheistic G-d and embrace the teachings of their deity. “The blood from this battle will be as high as a horse’s bridle. It’s just something mankind has never witnessed before” says Laura Bagg.

As to their take on the Muslims and Islam in the Middle East, the Christian tour guide states that in order for the future biblical prophecies to unfold, “the Dome of the Rock, the Al Aqsa mosque must be removed” and as such shows a photo of his group in Jerusalem with an image of the Beit HaMikdash (the Second Temple) superimposed over the golden dome symbolizing the Al Aqsa mosque. While the filmmakers probe the politically powerful and potentially explosive alliance between evangelical Christians and Israel by clarifying this elusive relationship in the hopes of fostering dialogue among dissenting groups, many questions remain about the dubious agenda they have foisted upon the Jewish people and the ultimate goal of creating a self-fulfilling prophecy of international holy war.

Right now however, it appears that Christian evangelicals and the Jewish people share a common threat arising from the spread of radical Islam. Pastor John Hagee, a fervent Christian Zionist leader, and an enormously influential minister of an 18,000 member mega-church in Texas, declares in this film, “There is a war between Islamofascism and freedom. There is a war between the culture of death (the Muslims) and those who love life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness (Christians and Jews). It is a war we must win.” Something to ruminate upon as madmen, such as Iran’s president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad continue to pursue their global nuclear ambitions.

...al aqsa di palestin...

Al-Aqsa ....
Since the Israeli occupation of East Jerusalem in 1967 the Zionist fundamentalists have staged over a hundred attacks on Masjid al Aqsa Haram Shareef. Until recently attacks on Masjid al Aqsa were in principle discouraged by the successive Israeli government.

However, the Zionists policy to remove all sites of religious significance belonging to the other faiths from Jerusalem has grown in momentum and the desire to build the Third Temple on the site of Masjid al Aqsa is becoming real. However, according to the Halachah, the Jewish code of law and doctrine, the most critical requirement for rebuilding the Temple, the coming of Messiah, has to be fulfilled. Hence the construction of the Temple until then would actually be in violation of Jewish beliefs. But, the Zionists and their parallel friends in the Christian Zionism have their enthusiasm outstripped by knowledge and from the time of occupation in 1967 Jews began their prayers in the area of Masjid al Aqsa Haram Shareef. Below is a brief list of attacks on Masjid al Aqsa since the illegal Zionist occupation of Jerusalem:

1967 Jewish zealots begin prayers within the Masjid al Aqsa sanctuary, despite the prohibition by the chief Rabbanate of Jews of even setting a foot in it (for fear of violating its sanctity according to Judaic law).

1969 Masjid al Aqsa set on fire. Entire south wing burnt down including the precious Mimbar (pulpit) of Nuradeen commissioned 700 years ago and installed by the great Muslim hero Salahuddin al Ayubi. The man found guilty had sought refuge in a kibbutz and was set free after receiving psychiatric counselling.

1970 Members of the Temple Mount Faithful group, dedicated to demolishing Masjid al Aqsa forcibly entered the Masjid al Aqsa. They were repulsed by the Muslims who suffered casualties from Israeli troop gunfire.

1976 Israeli Courts passed a law permitting Jews to pray in Masjid al Aqsa After much rioting, later to be revoked.

Sept 1979 Jewish extremists blocked one of the entrances to Masjid al Aqsa on Friday, pointing guns to worshippers.

May 1981 The adhan (call to Muslim prayer) was prohibited from the minaret overlooking the Western Wall because of Jewish celebration.

From 1980s Harassment and acts of sabotage escalated. In August of 1981 an Israeli helicopter hovered at low altitude over Masjid al Aqsa preventing worshippers inside from hearing the Khutba.

1981 Tunnels discovered under the Masjid al Aqsa sanctuary. World condemnation followed.

April 1982 A parcel with a fake bomb and threat signed by Jewish extremists was discovered at one of the gates.

April 1982 An ex Israeli army officer opened fire, killing two Muslims and filling the interior and exterior of the Dome of the Rock with bullet marks.

June 1982 An Israeli was arrested and then released for trying to blow up Masjid al Aqsa.

Summer 1982 Jewish fundamentalists attempted to enter Masjid al Aqsa with leaflets inciting Jews to take over the Haram Shareef.

Jan 1983 The Temple Mount Fund was established in Israel, Europe and America to raise funds for rebuilding the Jewish Temple on the site of Masjid al Aqsa.

March 1983 Explosives discovered at an entrance gate and four armed Israelis were discovered attempting to enter the Masjid al Aqsa. Six months later they were acquitted in Israeli courts.

Jan 1984 Jews attempted to climb the walls of Masjid al Aqsa with ladders in the middle of the night armed with ammunition.

1984 Armed Israeli guards start patrolling the Masjid al Aqsa. Their behaviour and presence inimical to the sanctity of Muslim holy site.

15 June 1988 Israeli troops stormed Masjid al Aqsa, firing tear gas into groups of worshippers

July 1988 Further tunnels discovered which sparked further unrest.

6 Oct 1990 Israeli troops opened fire on worshippers murdering 22 and wounding hundreds.

March 1996 Israelis re-opened a tunnel under the Masjid al Aqsa, resulting in confrontations, which resulted in the death of more than 70 Palestinians.
Tunnelling - The excavations under the Masjid al Aqsa are leading to dangerous cracks in buildings adjoining the Western Wall. Archaeologists believe that the tunnels have weakened the building structures within the Haram Shareef. It is believed that a slight tremor, which this area is prone to, will cause the Masjid al Aqsa to collapse. Many are of the opinion this is one of the main reasons for digging tunnels under the Masjid al Aqsa by the Zionists.

March 1997 Birth of a red heifer celebrated by Israelis as a sign from God to destroy the Masjid al Aqsa. This is to be accomplished when the heifer is 3 years old, coinciding with
March 2000.

Oct 1997 Zionist attempted to lay a 4.5 ton rock as a cornerstone for the foundation of their Temple but were repulsed.

May 1999 A recent book published is claiming that the Ark of the Covenant (a box containing the scrolls of Jewish Law from the time of Prophet Musa) is buried under the Masjid al Aqsa and should be retrieved. Although this theory is contrary to all modern scholarly research.

The Jewish fundamentalist aspiration to build a Jewish Temple has become more open. They openly declare their aims and objectives and are seeking financial and political backing from Europe and USA without any hindrance. Their architectural plans of the Temple are distributed throughout Jerusalem. The scale model together with various other aspects of the proposed Temple are placed in the lobby of Land Hotel, Jerusalem.

Recently around a dozen Jewish fundamentalist groups joined together to form an umbrella organisation called the United Association of Movement for the Holy Temple (UAMHT). Another staunch extremist group is of Gershom Solomon's, the Temple Mount Faithful. These groups are gripped in a frenzy of hate and ardent desire to blow up the Masjid al Aqsa

The UN Security Council has passed more than 20 resolutions condemning Israels annexation of East Jerusalem and its military occupation of the West Bank.
If the Israeli enthusiasm for moving Palestinians out of their houses is anything to go by, not to mention their history of blowing them up, then all concerned individuals had better keep an eye on Masjid al Aqsa and the Dome of the Rock. Because every day that passes the pressure is increasing. The Jewish extremists historically and theologically challenged viewpoint is working its way into the mainstream and is actively being taken up by parallel groups of Zionist Christian extremists who believe that the construction of the Temple would herald the End Times and the return of Jesus, peace be upon him. It is up to the honourable members of the International community to check their advance.

We at, Friends of Al Aqsa are trying to increase awareness to the dangers faced by Masjid al Aqsa and lobby appropriate departments to insure its safety.

Sheikh Tamimi warns of Al-Aqsa mosque collapsing

Jerusalem – Ma’an – Sheikh Tayseer Tamimi, chief Islamic judge for the Palestinian Authority, warned that the Al-Aqsa Mosque suffers from cracks and fissures in the walls, a sign of its impending collapse, as a result of Israeli excavations below it, he said on Monday.

Sheikh Tamimi further warned that houses in the surround neighborhood are at risk resulting from the Israeli Antiquities Authority working a night and removing dozens of bags with stones from the excavation site south of the mosque.

He further spoke of the rise in extremist Jewish, as well as military intrusion into the compound, including the entry of 50 students from various departments of archeology in Israeli universities to undertake research and of settlers while women prayed, he said.

The Sheikh held the Israeli government responsible for the collapses and deterioration around the Al-Aqsa Mosque and its surrounding environs and cautioned that Islamic and Christian sites are in jeopardy.

Sheikh Tamimi further called on Arabs and Muslims throughout the world to assist in halting the on-going Israeli excavations near the holy site.

His comments follow the another collapse in the Silwan neighborhood of occupied East Jerusalem on Monday, creating a 12 meter square hole in the middle of Wadi Hilwah street.

Silwan Street Collapse Increases, Meters Away From Al Aqsa Mosque Wall

Tuesday January 19, 2010 10:38
by Saed Bannoura - IMEMC News Report post

The Committee for Defending the Lands and Structures in Silwan town, in East Jerusalem, reported that the land slide and collapse that took place on Monday morning in the main road of Wadi Hilwa in Silwan had significantly increase due to the rain.

The first collapse took place due to the ongoing underground constructions and excavations carried out by Israeli near the Al Aqsa Mosque.

Local residents warned that the collapse could increase and reach the southern wall of the Al Aqsa Mosque as it is currently a few meters away from it. It could also lead to the collapse of several buildings and homes in the area, already fragile due to the ongoing illegal Israeli excavations.

Israel is constructing a network of tunnels that lead to the southern wall of the Al Aqsa mosque and underneath the mosque itself.

The Arabs48 news website reported that the Israeli police had to seal off the main road that links the town with its neighborhoods, and with Al Thoury area, Al Sawahra town, Jabal Al Mokabbir and Wadi Qaddoum.

He added that dozens of residents saw huge gaps under the road after Israel removed the rubble from the tunnels, and that the slides would continue to occur as the excavations are ongoing.

On Monday morning, a 3 X 4 meters slide took place in the center of Wadi Hilwa Street leading to structural damage, and injuries among the residents.

Sheikh Mohammad Hussein, the Mufti of Jerusalem and the Imam of the Al Aqsa Mosque, called on the International Community and Human Rights groups to intervene and stop the ongoing Israeli excavations under the Al Aqsa Mosque and in different areas in East Jerusalem.

Jawad Siyam, head of the Wadi Hilwa Information Center, said that the new collapse, 10 meters deep, is only a few meters away from a collapse that took place in the same area last week.

He added that a small truck that was parked in the area fell in the hole that resulted from the collapse, and that a child was wounded later on.

Also, rain waters flooded into the El Ein nearby mosque, the center point of illegal Israeli excavations.
