Egyptian commentators and former politicians have welcomed the
electoral victory of outgoing Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyib
Erdogan on Sunday.
Former advisor to the ousted president Mohamed Morsi and political
scientist Dr Seif Abdel-Fattah welcomed the victory in a congratulatory
note on Facebook, while former minister of investment under Morsi, Yehia
Hamed, congratulated Erdogan, haling his "persistence in supporting
causes of liberty and democracy and standing against oppressive
regimes."
Human right activist Haitham Abu Khalil hailed the "principled
competition" between Erdogan and his rival candidates, as the
opposition's candidate Ekmelettin Ihsanoglu congratulated Erdogan for
his victory.
Similarly, political activist and Coptic youth leader Rami Jan
congratulated Erdogan and the Turkish people. "Erdogan, this unique man
has changed the political system in Turkey for good," he said on
Facebook.
